The other releases in the series were Vectorman, Comix Zone, ToeJam & Earl in Panic on Funkotron, and Marvel Comics, X-Men 2: Clone Wars. Virtual Sonic was the first of five soundtracks published under the "Sega Tunes" banner. Though rushed, he still thought some of what he created was "pretty cool." While Howard asked for more time, SEGA was insistent he get it done as quickly as possible, giving him only a month to complete the work. Composer Howard Drossin was asked by SEGA to create an album of Sonic-related music to be ready for the opening of the Sega VirtuaLand at the Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. The writing and recording of the material that would eventually become Virtual Sonic occurred in 1993. While a handful of songs are taken from both Sonic the Hedgehog Spinball and Sonic & Knuckles, a number of tracks contained therein are exclusive to this release. Virtual Sonic is an album featuring music connected to and inspired by the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise.
